- Size: About 2.5 inches tall
- Hook: 3 mm
- Yarn: Light worsted / DK in brown or beige tones
- Other: Fiberfill (optional for puff), yarn needle
🧶 Pattern Steps
Base (Pinecone Center)
- ◾️1. Magic Ring, ch 1
- ◾️2. 6 sc in ring — pull tight (6 sts)
- ◾️3. Round 2: 2 sc in each st around (12 sts)
- ◾️4. Round 3: (1 sc, inc) repeat around (18 sts)
- ◾️5. Round 4: (2 sc, inc) repeat around (24 sts)
- ◾️6. Round 5–6: sc in each st around (24 sts)
- → This forms a small oval base.
- Petal Layers (Scales)
- Each petal layer is made using puff or shell stitches.
◾️Round 7 (1st Petal Layer):
Skip 1 st, work (dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc) in next st, skip 1 st, sl st in next st → repeat around.
You’ll have 12 petals forming the first row of scales.
◾️Round 8 (2nd Layer):
Attach yarn in the middle space between two petals below.
(dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc) in same spot, skip next petal base, sl st in next gap) repeat around.
◾️Round 9 (3rd Layer):
Repeat the same shell pattern, spacing petals slightly closer to center top.
Petals should start overlapping like real pinecone scales.
Top Closure
1. When pinecone narrows, switch to sc rounds again:
(sc2tog, sc in next) repeat around until about 6 sts remain.
2. Fasten off, close hole with needle.
3. (Optional) Stuff lightly for shape.
Stem or Loop
For a hanging version: ch 10, sl st to same st, fasten off and weave in.
For a natural look: add a small wooden bead or brown thread stem.
💕 Finishing Touches
- Lightly brush petals for fluffier look.
- Use two yarn shades (brown + cream) for a natural gradient.
- Perfect as autumn garland pieces, gift toppers, or ornaments.
