Round Coaster / Doily – Written Pattern(H1)

Materials Needed (H2)

  • Cotton yarn in three colors

    • Color A: Green (center)

    • Color B: Yellow / Mustard

    • Color C: Cream / Off-white

  • Crochet hook suitable for your yarn (3–4 mm recommended)

  • Scissors

  • Yarn needle for weaving in ends

Stitch Abbreviations (H2)

  • ch – chain

  • sl st – slip stitch

  • sc – single crochet

  • dc – double crochet

  • MR – magic ring

  • ( ) × 10 – repeat instructions 10 times

Note: Beginning ch-3 counts as 1 dc throughout the pattern.

 Round 1 : Center (Green) (H3)

  1. Make a magic ring

  2. Ch 3 (counts as dc), work 9 dc into the ring

  3. Sl st into the top of beginning ch-3

Total: 10 dc

Fasten off or change color to Yellow.

Round 2 : Petal Base (Yellow) (H3)

  1. Join yarn in any dc

  2. Ch 3 (counts as dc)

  3. 2 dc in same stitch, ch 2

  4. (2 dc in next stitch, ch 2) × 9

  5. Sl st to top of beginning ch-3

Total: 10 groups of 2 dc with ch-2 spaces

 Round 3 : Petals (Yellow) (H3)

  1. Sl st into next ch-2 space

  2. Ch 3 (counts as dc)

  3. 1 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in same space

  4. (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in next ch-2 space) × 9

  5. Sl st to top of beginning ch-3

You should now have 10 yellow petal shapes.

Fasten off Yellow and join Cream.

Round 4 : Scalloped Edge (Cream) (H3)

  1. Join yarn in the center dc between two petals

  2. 1 sc in same stitch

  3. In next ch-2 space: 7 dc

  4. (1 sc in next dc between petals, 7 dc in next ch-2 space) × 9

  5. Sl st to first sc

Fasten off and weave in all ends securely.

New Round 5 : Extra Scallop (H4)

  1. Join yarn in the middle dc of any 7-dc shell

  2. 1 sc

  3. In next sc between shells: ch 3, 1 dc, ch 3

  4. (1 sc in middle dc of next shell, ch 3, dc in next sc, ch 3) around

  5. Sl st to first sc

Result: Larger doily with a delicate lace finish.

OPTION 2: Make It Much Bigger (Full Petal Extension) (H2)

Creates a bold flower-style centerpiece doily.

Round 5 : Petal Base (H3)

  • Join yarn in any sc between shells

  • Ch 3 (dc), 1 dc, ch 2

  • (2 dc, ch 2 in next sc) around

  • Sl st

Round 6 : Petals (H3)

  • Sl st into ch-2 space

  • (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in each space

  • Sl st

Round 7 : Final Scallop (H3)

  • (1 sc between petals, 7 dc in ch-2 space) around

  • Sl st, fasten off

Approximate Size Guide (H2)

  • Original coaster: 10–11 cm (4–4.5 in)

  • With extra lace round: 13–14 cm
